Scores & Penalties
| Word | Meaning |
| Score of 3 points. Used for throws where the opponent has been tripped.
Also awarded if you hold your opponent down for 15 seconds. * Note that if a fighter has (for example) 5 Koka’s (totalling 15 points) and the other fighter has 1 Yuko (5 points), the person with the Yuko will win. The higher score always takes precidence (ie. Yuko over Koka, Wazari over Yuko etc). |

| Score of 5 points. For slightly better throws where the opponent falls on their side.
Also awarded if you hold your opponent down for 20 seconds. * Note that if a fighter has (for example) 5 Koka’s (totalling 15 points) and the other fighter has 1 Yuko (5 points), the person with the Yuko will win. The higher score always takes precidence (ie. Yuko over Koka, Wazari over Yuko etc). |

| Score of 7 points. Where the throw almost lands the opponent flat on their back (nearly an Ippon or ‘outright win’).
Also awarded if you hold your opponent down for 25 seconds. |

Wazari-Awasete-Ippon
|
Score of two Wazaris making a full Ippon, 10 points. Basically where the opponent has been thrown twice for Wazari an outright-win (Ippon) is given. |
| Score of 10 points. Instant win. Used for an excellent throw, where the person lands flat on their back or no-longer has any control over the fight (eg. like if carried on the shoulders like in Kata-Guruma).
Also given when the opponent submits to an armlock or strangle or is held down for the full 30 seconds. |

| Penalty of 3 points. Used for a minor infringement of the rules (like kicking, bad language, headlocking people when turning in for an O-Goshi off the high grip etc). | |
| Penalty of 5 points. For a more serious offense or a repeat of the previous offsense where Shido was given. | |
| Penalty of 7 points. For a more serious offense or a repeat of the previous offsense where Chui was given. | |
| Penalty of 10 points. Full term is Hansokumake (to the loser) and Hansoku-gachi or Ippon to the winner. Used for a serious offense. | |

Sogo-Gachi
(So-go-gash) |
Compound win. Where one contestant has a Wazari then the opponent receives a penalty of keikoku; or vice versa. |

Kiken-Gachi

Awarded by referee when contestant withdraws due to injury. |

Fusen-Gachi
(Fus-en-gash) |
Win by default. awarded by referee when contestant fails to appear. |

Yusei-Gachi
(Yu-sy-gash) |
Superiority win. (can be 1,3,5, or 7 points according to score). |
